Favoring The Style Of Isabel Marant

Isabel Marant

Isabel Marant2

If you had to chose one brand name to wear every day, what would it be? When that question was posed to me, I chose Isabel Marant. IM is one of my favorite labels, and since so many of the line’s clothes, shoes, and accessories are what some Isabel fans deem works of art (that can be worn), it’s safe to say that the French house of fashion’s owner and designer, Isabel Marant, has got to be one of the most favored and stylish people on the planet. IM’s designs have gained a significant following, bordering cult status, from models and actresses to bloggers and regular non-famous yet fashion-conscious people. IM creates iconic pieces that create such a buzz that those hot items end up sell out like hot potatoes, generating wait lists for things out of stock or remorse for not snapping things up before becoming sold out. Like her line, IM is synonymous with Parisian casual chic. Her collections are always talked about and lusted over, and IM continues to create things that woman want season after season. She’s always seen in her own creations; therefore, always in the coolest things: boho-chic separates with ethnic prints and embellishments, bomber jackets, trousers, over-sized tees, funky skirts, furs, and of course, the hottest shoes and sneakers on the market. IM truly inspires, she’s like the best dressed girl in the class, who doesn’t care if you wear the same things she does. Actually, she encourages it.

Festival Craves & Savors

Doesn’t every one love festival season? It sure looked like it based on the number of happy festival goers who went to the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino this past weekend, where Mumford and Sons headlined. While I like the band, what really had my bf and I sold on the concert were the food trucks and the fact that we wanted to spend time with Jax and her husband Ste, our music festival partners. There were so many food trucks in this large outdoor amphitheater, and the first thing we did was eat at the Wicked Kitchen, which I had been craving since trying it for the first time at Coachella. I had the same thing I had before, “I Pity The Tofu’l.” Not long after, my bf and I shared some nachos at one of the taco stands. We also tried the Chunk-n-Chip Cookies Truck, which was my favorite. I had the pistachio ice cream in between two chocolate chip cookies. The ice cream was delicious, there were little chinks of pistachio mashed in the ice cream, and it was so good, I forgot about the cookies, and neglected them almost altogether. I always enjoy being able to try a variety of food cravings at the trucks and vendors that have become almost as popular at music festivals as the bands themselves. I enjoy savoring time with friends, the great music, and the great vibes from the people there having a good time. It’s also nice to be inspired by festival fashion, and there isn’t any one more fashionable that I know than my friend and festival partner, who can be followed on Instagram @Luna_spoon (named after her beloved Boston Terrier).

So, what festival or concert is next on the list? Which band or musician is a must-see this season and where?

Craving Sprinkles

Who doesn’t love a good cupcake every once in a while? Whenever I crave cupcakes, I go to Sprinkles in Beverly Hills, which has the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. They are moist, flavorful, and bring such happiness like no other cupcake bakery in the entire world. I’ve heard about this place from my good friend Jax, the biggest cupcake fan known to man, so I knew Sprinkles had to be good. Since my first bite, I was hooked and ever since then, Sprinkles has become my absolute favorite cupcakery (cupcake bakery). My bf and I ordered two dozen cupcakes (to share with friends, and Jax of course), including Red Velvet, Black and White, Strawberry Shortcake, Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Banana Chocolate, and my new favorite flavor, Banana. Sprinkles is to die for!

We got a rather pleasant surprise when we went to Sprinkles and saw that they have a new ice cream parlor right next door. Sprinkles ice cream is handcrafted using organic California dairy and carefully selected ingredients that are slow churned to incorporate less air resulting in a densely creamy and intensely flavorful ice cream experience. I had the 2 scoops of the vanilla and salted caramel in a red velvet sugar cone, and my bf had the cookie ice cream sundae with a chocolate chip cookie, Captain Crunch ice cream, with hot fudge and whip cream. On the driving home from our little Sprinkles dessert haul, while eating my ice cream cone, I felt like a sweets bandit in the night. I thought desserts should never taste this darn good. Well, every one should have a guilty pleasure. At least every once in a while.

Craving Crustacean

Aren’t there times when we just crave garlic noodles? Last night was one of those times when I was feeling like I needed to satisfy this craving, right before my bf and I decided to make reservations at Crustacean in Beverly Hills. The first thing we noticed inside of the restaurant is a beautiful aquarium to the right of the entrance. Walking through the lounge and into the dining area, we also noticed the glass aquarium underfoot, filled with colorful koi fish. The ambiance in the restaurant is great, but it set the scene for an even greater meal. We started off with the corn with crab soup, the seafood salad, seafood dumplings, and mussels. We shared a side order of the bok choy, and we each had a whole crab and an order of the garlic noodles. The seasoned crab is scrumptious, but what I love about Crustacean is the crab is presented already cracked and peeled, leaving just the meat to be enjoyed without any hassle. Everything we had was so delicious and a plus was having an extremely pleasant and attentive server. I started off with craving garlic noodles, and I ended up with six other must-order-again cravings that I will likely lead me back to Crustacean. I can’t wait!

Everyday I’m Shoefflin’

While we’re playing cards, doesn’t it seem like the deck favors some people and not others? Last night, I was invited to attend the City of Hope Research and Medical Center (a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and founding member for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network) Charity Event at the the Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles. I entered into the All In For Hope Celebrity Poker Tournament for an awesome cause and also for a chance to win the $10,000 seat to the World Series of Poker Main Event In Las Vegas, which was awarded to the last player standing. Well, in this case, it would be the last player sitting, because when or if a player gets busted out, he or she basically stands up from the table, and heads off to the sidelines, otherwise known as the rail. I was discussing the night’s events with my Isabel Marant Carol studded leather sandals, since there was very little action at our table and many of the players weren’t very talkative. My sandals aren’t very knowledgable about Texas Hold ‘Em, but even they noticed that the dealers weren’t very good. They wondered if that had any correlation to my cards not being very good, but I was convinced that in gambling, it really just comes down to the luck of the draw. Poker requires a lot of luck, but also a lot of patience. About 3 hours into the event, I could hear my shoes shuffling under the table, bored and antsy for this show to get on the road. I basically maintained my chip stack, but announcements to up the ante started to come at an increasingly faster pace. Like my shoes, the Event’s Hosts were wondering what was taking so long. Apparently, this was their first poker tournament event and the planners may not have anticipated the amount of time this game takes. My shoes were falling asleep to the sounds of the dealers shuffling the cards and some of the players shuffling their chips. As the the blinds continued to get bigger and bigger and my chip stack was getting shorter and shorter, I made the choice to try to double up my next good hand. I finally got an Ace King, off suit, in the small blind. At this point, blinds were 400/800 (we all started with 5000 chips, with options to re-buy), and the guy to my right, on the button raised to 2000. It was 1600 to call and we were both relatively short stacked. He had me covered, but I couldn’t let him steal the blinds on the button with my hand so, with my AK, I pushed all in. He called with Queen Nine. I had him crushed, Flop came, nothing… Turn card, nothing… River card came… Queen. I woke my shoes up and I let them know that they’d be happy to hear that we were leaving the table and gave them a summary of what just happened. I congratulated the winner of the hand and shuffled over to the rail. My shoes commented, “Wow, there were only 6 cards in the deck, after the Turn, that could have kept him in his seat,” Well, that’s just the shuffle of the deck I guess. The DJ was spinning some tunes, and my sandals and I couldn’t help but do a little LMFAO shuffle and sing, “Everyday, I’m Shoefflin’.”

Favoring the Stand-out Style of Freida Pinto

How do we stand out in a crowd? It wouldn’t take very much if we looked like Freida Pinto, but even in a sea of unbelievably beautiful and stylish people, FP manages to shine like the star that she is. At every appearance she makes, FP never goes unnoticed. Her choices never shy away from bright colors, unique textures, and bold silhouettes. Just like she’s got her hand-on-hip and ready for-the-camera pose down, her stunning red-carpet style is equally perfected. I’m always excited when I see more ethnic celebrities gain deserved attention and success, and FP one of the very few Asian/Indian woman in the United States that has taken center stage, all while doing it in style and grace.

JaxB-Day

Don’t we just love being able to spend time with friends to celebrate good times together? In one week span, I was able to be with the best friends a person can have. We’ve all gotten together to celebrate a pregnancy, a birthday, and life! As the years go by, we celebrate more and more milestones together, and continue to learn about and learn from one another, and also learn about ourselves. In addition to savoring the fun times we share together, we are also able to truly appreciate the people in our lives and savor our friendships with them. Initially, I thought that this blog was going to be more centered around style and fashion. As we’ve all probably noticed, so many of the things I crave and savor are actually centered around the people in my life and all the amazing meals I share with them. So I have to give my thanks to all of you who style and accessories my world. You are all like the shoes to my outfits! (And you all know how much I love shoes).

Getting My Mac(aron) On!

29 May

Don’t we all love getting gifts? Hell yes! Especially when they are edible, and incredible!. While visiting Vegas, I got a nice surprise when I was given a box of macarons by LT, the creator of So Sweet Bites Custom Desserts (http://www.soathome.blogspot.com/). LT is one hot little Suzie Homemaker and makes the most detailed and delicious dessert masterpieces. I was given heart-shaped toffee and mini hazelnut flavored macarons. I always thought the things she made were way to pretty to eat, but that thought went out the window after trying by first bite. The most amazing cakes and treats that are stimulating to taste and look at, I could now say, I would not feel bad eating. I always salivate when viewing her Instagram and blog posts, and was stoked when I was able to enjoy the macarons that she so thoughtfully made for me. LT is as sweet as her desserts. I felt a little pang of sadness when I ate my last bite, but I could not help and thoroughly enjoyed getting my Mac on.

Savoring The Life Of The (Birthday) Party

28 May

jaclynbday

Isn’t it easy to fall in love with the life of the party? I’ve known Jax for the past 15 years, but it was definitely love at first laugh. It doesn’t have to be her birthday (which it so happens to be today) nor does it have to be a party in order for her to bring life to any situation, no matter how crazy or how mundane. There are some very rare and very special people in this world that never fail to entertain, and if there was a reality show that I would actually watch, it would have to star this birthday girl. In addition to Jax being one of the most fun persons to be around, she is also an amazing friend, and an amazing person. She is a person that I look up to and look forward to being around and if you ever have the pleasure of meeting her, she will surely and easily sweep you off your feet too. I can honestly say that throughout the years, she has made countless and (already) unforgettable experiences that much more memorable. I can’t help but savor and be appreciative for the flavor and color she brings to my life, so I have to say Happy Happy Birthday to the beautiful, stylish, and irreplaceable Jax, the Life of the Party.

Craving Lotus of Siam Thai Restaurant

What do we do when we go on vacation? Eat! Las Vegas allows for food lovers to indulge in a variety of cuisines and many restaurants are accessible in the many hotels on the strip; however, one restaurant that is off the strip and not in a hotel is Lotus of Siam Thai Restaurant. The food offered at this restaurant has got to be the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and I am positive that any one who loves Thai food and has eaten at Lotus will crave it for the rest of his or her life. The last time I was in Vegas was the first time dining at Lotus, and I could not get it out of my mind. The wait could be long, so we made sure to make reservations ahead of time, especially since were a party of 9. A group of friends and I, especially, were eager for the food that already made best buds with my taste-buds. The menu is extensive, but since most of us have been to Lotus before and since there were a few Vegas locals in the group, who are regulars, we ordered what we knew every one would love. The following were some of the dishes that were ordered that I had been dying to eat: the Som Thum (Papaya Salad), Garlic Shrimp, Nam Kao Tod with no meat (Crispy Rice), Pad Thai with Shrimp, Crab Fried Rice, Yellow Curry with Shrimp, Drunken Noodle Seafood, and Chinese Broccoli in oyster sauce. We all shared the mango with sticky rice and fried banana with ice cream (must order!). Before the trip, I was so excited to get the opportunity to eat at Lotus and was glad that I was able to eat such great food with great friends. My cravings were also glad because they left Lotus happy, happy that they got to visit their best Thai friend, best friend forever!
