Favoring the Style and Smile of Behati Prinsloo

14 May

What makes some one’s style so favorable to others? Whenever I see Behati Prinsloo, I am reminded that great style isn’t always the name brands one wears or the trends one follows. After first seeing BP in the Victoria Secret catalogs, then in magazine spreads, and most recently in a Free People shoot, I began following her on Instagram and became more and more enamored with her. I love that she describes herself as a “t-shirt and jeans kinda girl,” and despite being in an industry where looks can be “everything,” her street style gives off the impression that looks are nothing without that “something.” When it comes to BP, that something is her personality, which shines through in whatever she puts on, whether it’s for work or for leisure. Her style is so relatable, free-spirited, and surprisingly, comfortable. When I mean comfortable, I also mean she looks comfortable in her own skin as well as the clothes she’s in. She’s usually photographed make-up free, having fun, and most importantly smiling! Nothing makes some one more favorable to look at than a genuine smile, which can be the most stylish and important thing some one can put on.

Favoring the Style of the Iconic Audrey Hepburn

2 May

Audrey Hepburn2

Who can forget the iconic Breakfast At Tiffany’s dress that has defined the term perfect LBD “little black dress.” I can’t count how many times I’ve seen others attempt to recreate the iconic images of Audrey Hepburn. Her classic and timeless style and beauty have been an inspiration to so many of us, who try to channel our “inner Audrey Hepburn,” not only in fashion, but in they way we carry ourselves. While AH loved fashion, she believed that that we can see beauty, which is not just style or skin deep, in the goodness of people. Her famous quotes conveyed the message that “the happiest girls are the prettiest girls” and her positive messages will always be what has defined her style in my book. I thoroughly agree with sentiment that “The beauty of a women is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The Beauty of a women is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman us reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows adn the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

Favoring the Impressive Style of Diane Kruger

25 Apr

Isn’t is almost unbelievable that Diane Kruger styles herself? As as beautiful as she is stylish, DK is always dressed to impress, and we can’t help but be even more impressed by the fact that she does it on her own. With so many celebrities that work with stylists, many who are now celebrities themselves, it’s refreshing to see a star like DK, without a stylist, with great taste in clothing and an amazing individual fashion sense. DK is one of my favorite style icons to watch out for, as her choices for red carpet events are always incredible and unforgettable. Her choices off the red carpet are equally as anticipated, but I can’t help but favor her all dolled up in dresses of different lengths, shapes, textures, and colors. With all eyes and cameras on her, DK has proven that, even when taking red carpet risks, she knows exactly what she’s doing. DK inspires the notion that when we can trust ourselves, embrace our own style, and dress for ourselves, we can wear something with complete confidence, which is what style really comes down to.

Favoring the Casual Style of Alessandra Ambrosio

12 Apr

Who doesn’t favor supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio’s style? As Coachella weekend 1 commenced, I immediately thought of AA and her casual Cali style that I absolutely adore and will be using for inspiration on what to bring with me when I pack next week for Coachella weekend 2. While she looks super sexy glam in dresses and red-carpet looks (and especially in lingerie!), AA looks just as stunning and fashionable on her off-model-duty days, while roaming the streets in casual brands like Rag & Bone, Hudson, Wildfox, J Brand, etc., usually with her adorable children and cute as a button maltese. I guess with freakish long and lean limbs and goddess features, it’s probably difficult to not look great since she practically screams model no matter what she’s in. I love how relaxed, but still hip-cool her fashion sense is. It has also been announced that she is launching her new fashion line Alé by Alessandra. AA will undoubtedly continue to stand the test of time in the fashion, lifestyle, and modeling world, post babies and all. If there is even a chance she doesn’t, she will always do down in most of our books as one of our favorite Victoria Secret Angels of all time.

Favorite Spring Things: I ♥ Spring TAG

8 Apr

What are your favorite Spring things? I was tagged by the lovely and beautiful Vera from http://avecveritas.wordpress.com/ and was excited to be tagged since I ♥ Spring and this post will allow me to share my faves…

Favorite spring nail polish?
I love bringing out bright polish colors for Spring and nails with fun fruit designs like apples, strawberries, and watermelons. I don’t have a favorite spring polish per se, but I am currently wearing American Apparel NEON Nail Lacquer in Neon Red, with American Apparel Nail Lacquer in Office, and MAC Nail Lacquer in Creme Nocturnelle (Black). I love how the colors stand out look good against tanned skin, not to mention, they work well in Spring’s warm weather.

What is your must-have lip color thing spring?
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick – Fuchsia in Excess No. 5 is a must! I love how it’s really hydrating and we can apply slightly less for a muted look or add more color for intensity and shine. I usually like matte and neutral lips, but for Spring, I’m able to have a little more fun with lip colors that pop and are super glossy, enabling me to still have a finished look without having to wear much else in terms of make-up.

Show us your favorite Spring dress!
It was tough picking a favorite Spring dress; I had another dress in mind for this post, but I decided that my initial thought couldn’t be a Spring favorite since I haven’t worn it recently. So, I picked Mara Hoffman’s Fitted Mid-calf Multicolored Dress. It’s really soft and comfortable, can be easily dress down with a chambray shirt or top, and paired with heels, flats, or sandals. I love the colors and so far as worked out great for Spring.

Favorite flower?
Orchids all the way! The kitchen is one of the first places I enter after waking up and I always like to have some right by the sink, in front of a window looking out to the backyard.

Favorite spring scarf/accessory?
My Favorite Spring Scarf is a Floral one by Zara. The colors just make me happy. My favorite accessory is a beaded necklace inspired by Isabel Marant’s Pop color necklace. When I saw it, I knew I had to have it but like most IM pieces that I fall in love with and attempt to find, it was completely sold out. While browsing Etsy, I discovered this store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/rokcandyofnyc and as I was looking at their items, it was noted that they make custome pieces. I sent them a picture of the IM inspiration and asked if they would be able to make one similar for me, and they did. I absolutely love what I received, it was a lot less expensive than the IM necklace at the time, and the Etsy store also gives 5% of every purchase to http://www.womenforwomen.org Helping Women Survivors of War Rebuild Their Lives.

What spring trend(s) are your most excited about this year? (make-up, fashion or both!)
I’m excited about the “Haute Grunge” make-up and hair trends. In fashion, you’d think I’d be excited about bright or pastel Spring colors, but I’m actually more excited about the bold stripes and black-and-white combination trends, which have led me to buy: Nastygal’s Next in Line Blouse, Zara’s Faux Leather Combination Dress, Zara’s Combination Striped Blouse, Zara’s Striped Cropped Trousers with zips on ankles, Nastygal’s Trimmed Tux Pant, and Free People’s Skinny Ankle Jeans with Vegan Leather Tuxedo Trim.

Favorite spring candle?
Acquiesse “Shoreline” scented candle. The fragrance is a mix between ocean air, coastal flowers and wood, all things that remind me of Spring. The candle comes in a beautiful, ultra-thick, and unique smoke-brown glass in modern packaging that I keep to store other things. Acquiesse uses a soy wax blend and is made with organic soybean oil and lead-free wicks. There are also several different scents that I really like from Acquiesse.

Favorite body spray/perfume for spring?
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre Eau de Toilette is my most recent fragrance purchase for Spring. I tend to gravitate towards lighter, more delicate scents and since I was happy with the previous facets of Chance that I own, I figured the third generation of this fragrance family would be another great addition to my collection. I love how fresh, airy, and sweet it smells, without being overpowering. There are subtle floral and fruity traces and is perfect for Spring and Summer.

What is spring like where your live?
Pasadena California has beautiful weather all year-round. Because of its position both higher and further inland than Los Angeles, Pasadena experiences slightly warmer weather in the spring and summer seasons. Spring is consistently warm and temperatures increase gradually as it gets closer to the hot summers. Rainfall is uncommon and erratic; those rare rainy days will be followed by hot, dry ones. I snapped a pic on a typical Spring day driving around my neighborhood, and as we can see, Pasadena is blessed with usual blue skies and suburban streets, lined with trees that are green and blossoming in the Spring.

Are you a spring cleaner?
Yes! I am a constant closet purger. I am a big proponent for gifting, donating and selling unwanted things. I am a little compulsive about things having a home.

Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation?
I will be experiencing the chilly and crisp weather in a ski-town with snow-capped mountains, then experiencing the dry and hot weather under the sun in the dessert during the second week of a three-day music fest, then experiencing the humid climate in the Islands in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. I am looking forward to going to South Lake Tahoe California for a friend’s Wedding, and Indio California for the Coachella Valley Music Festival. I am also looking forwarded to traveling to Philippines with my mom, where I will also be visiting the beautiful island of Boracay with girlfriends. While these places aren’t new to me, the experiences will be and have a feeling there will be a lot of Spring time savors.

Raving About My Baseball Jacket

3 Apr

Who’s excited about baseball season? After the Giants won the world series last year, my family and I were able to take photos with the World Championship trophies that the Giants won in both 2010 and 2012 at beautiful AT&T Park. I was excited to share in San Francisco’s celebration of the Giants’ big win, and equally excited to get some baseball gear at the Giants Dugout Store. While searching for gifts as well as myself, I learned that the men’s section had so much more than the women’s section… the guys seemed to have all of the good stuff. There were a ton of really cool letterman and baseball jackets that I wish they made for women or children, or even in smaller men’s sizes. Even while attempting to find a size small in the a men’s letter jackets, I was informed most of the styles weren’t even made in a size small. I wanted a Giants jacket, but I didn’t want one that was going to be giant on me. So, I decided I was going to make my own San Francisco Giants baseball jacket, one that was going to fit. There are so many trendy baseball style jackets for women, so it was easy for me to pick out a simple black jacket with white vegan leather sleeves and white buttons from H&M for a reasonable price. I carefully took off the letter “B” that was originally on the jacket and went on eBay to look for some San Francisco Giants patches. I found two vintage Giants patches that I thought would look great on my jacket, each under $10. The patches were super easy to iron on and I was left with a baseball jacket with a vintage feel, that represents my favorite team. Creating a team jacket turned out to be a lot less costly than purchasing one in-store, but a lot more form fitting and unique to personal preferences. Nothing should stop us from something that we want, especially if it’s easy enough to make ourselves. Now, we can be all excited about dressing for baseball season. Go Team Go!!

Favoring the Sophisticated Style of Olivia Palermo

28 Mar

Doesn’t Olivia Palermo always look like she’s dressed for a photo shoot? I don’t think I’ve ever once seen OP in a bad outfit. She is the fashion blogger’s dream. Everything she puts together is so chic and sophisticated. Even looking back on older photos of OP, her style always seem current since she incorporates trendy pieces in her outfits that are unique and special, but she still has an overall classic look. Not to mention, she pulls everything together with a perfect bag and eye catching accessories. There are times when I see something on OP, that I didn’t think I would be fond of (like jackets and sweaters with leather sleeves), but when seeing the way she pulls off certain trends and how she pairs them with other items, OP always inspires me to give certain things a chance that I may have not previously considered ever incorporating into my wardrobe. While there are other stars in amazing red carpet ensembles and dresses that I favor, OP (yes, looks amazing as usual, but) is relatable in the sense that her style is something that the normal and fashionable person (who may not have non-stop, publicized events to go) can gain inspiration from.

Favoring the Funky Style of Gwen Stefani

7 Mar

What do we think of when we hear the name Gwen Stefani. A few things immediately come to mind: rock star, platinum blond hair, signature red lipstick, killer abs, No Doubt, L.A.M.B., Harajuku Lover, and style icon. Not only do I favor Gwen’s music and personality, I truly favor her style. GS always looks amazing and looks exactly the same as she did when the world was introduced to her distinct voice as the lead singer of her band, if not better. No matter where she is or who she is with, she rocks clothes, shoes, and accessories like she rocks the house on stage. Gwen Stefani has a very unique flirty-rocker style that is often imitated, but never duplicated, as she can pull things off that most of us would never even think of putting on. It’s no wonder GS knows so much about fashion as she comes from a long line of seamstresses, so transitioning from music to creating her own label Love.Music.Angel.Baby. was seamless. While we can all go on and on about the lovely Gwen Stefani, all I have to say is her style is Bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Favoring the Style of Bad Girl Rihanna

1 Mar

Can you be infatuated with one aspect of some one, but not be very fond of other aspects? I often find myself so in love with Rihanna’s fearless and edgy style and how no matter the new daring outfit she’s in or how often she changes her hairstyle, she is always captivating. Behind the photos, and underneath the clothes and without all of the glitz and glamour; however, there is a real person with feelings and thoughts. I don’t know Rihanna personally, (although I have seen her a few times dining at my favorite Restaurant, Giorgio Baldi), but I can’t help but wonder about her personal life, mostly pertaining to her now very public relationship with Chris Brown, who a few years ago famously physically assaulted her. Usually, if some one, whose style I adore also happens to be really sweet or likable, I favor them even more. Does it; however, also work the other way around? Can we like some one less for an opinion about something that is really none of our business? I am still inspired by Rihanna’s ever evolving style, I still enjoy grooving to her music (and Chris Brown’s for that matter), and I still root for her continual success. Still, there is a part of me that doesn’t agree with her choice of getting back into a potentially dangerous relationship. While there countless photos of Rihanna in super cute ensembles and show stopping numbers sporting black and white, I suppose outside of outfits in monochrome, nothing in life is ever truly black or white.

Favoring The Style Of It Girl Cara Delevingne

21 Feb

How does one possess the “It” quality and is there even a definition for this rather ambiguous term? I have been talking almost daily about how beautiful and stylish Cara Delevingne is; therefore, I thought it only appropriate to post about how much I favor this new “It girl.” Although I’m not the biggest fan of the term since it commonly describes so many other young women in fashion or show biz, I can’t think of any one other than Cara who has lately drawn so much attention and popularity among the young and the fashionable. After first noticing CD while shopping on the ASOS website, she soon became a familiar face in campaigns such as Chanel, Burberry, and Zara, on the runway of Victoria Secret’s fashion show, and when gracing the cover of British Vogue, named the Model of the Year. What I love most about CD is while she can be as glam as the rest of and the best of the supermodels, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and is often seen posing for pics, making silly faces or goofing around. Her spunky street style, charming persona, and of course her attractive features all contribute to her “It” factor, drawing all of us in with her magnetic force.
